Day 3 Stourport on Severn to Worcester

Reveille 7.30. Breakfast 8.15. Arrived 4.20. Distance today 12.5 miles. This morning started being absolutely glorious, bright and sunny, people sculling along the river, the birds singing away, church bells ringing in the distance, cyclists trying to run you over on the footpath! Very pleasant walking today although it’s a real shame that Japanese Knot weed is prolific, and is obscuring the views of the river most of the time. Lunch was a very pleasant affair at the Holt Fleet Hotel. I went for the carvery and Ian had a huge tuna niciose- mega salad. One and half hours later we were on our way arriving in Worcester at 16.20 all in all a pleasant days walk with a only a slight whiff of rain. Walking makes you hungry so we are just about to tuck into Back gammon steak with bubble and squeak and a few extra bits; Ian is going for something vaguely vegetarian at the Diglis Hotel which overlooks the river. The Diglis Hotel service was very slow and they lefy half of Ian’s food behind. It was a lot of money for very little food (posh nosh). Worcester itself is a nice enough city and the Cathedral is inspirational. The B&B is nice with a mega power shower- no need to run around in the cubicle to get wet with this one! The B&B area is a bit run down. We felt like we had to stand guard over our tumble drying in the local launderette. Apparently we have crossed over two Thomas Telford bridges (Ian is counting). Thomas Telford is a very important man and you should check him out apparently.
An interesting observation is that the Birmingham Anglers Association seem to have the fishing rights for most of the river, they were out in force today with a whole variety of equipment including a vast menu of maggots. We concluded that the fish must love it " hey guys, let's go out for lunch today, there's a carvery on at the river Severn today courtesy of the BAA, at least seven choices on the menu". Last but by no means least Ian got upset and decided that he doesn't like the Severn Valley anymore because he couldn't receive Radio 4 and therefore listen to the Archers omnibus- a slight increase in walking pace was noticeable!
